FRIDAY 17 JULY | 20:00 – 22:00 | Artist Talk XR creator CHOU Tung-Yen with programmer Kato van der Speeten | Podium Mozaiek  – Studio 2 | Pay what you want

In this conversation, Kato van der Speeten talks to XR creator CHOU Tung-Yen (Taiwan) about intimacy, desire and the fear of loneliness and old age.  CHOU’s XR-works ‘the Mist trilogy’ (part 3 Traversing is presented during Radical Togetherness) explores forms of intimacy and desire that can be challenging, uncomfortable, and difficult to articulate, and the encouragement we received here gave us the confidence to continue sharing it with audiences around the world.Through VR, audiences travel together through surreal landscapes where deeply personal emotions become shared experiences. Especially during Pride and WorldPride, this conversation between van Speeten and CHOU will also touch upon the question if and how work can offer a space for reflection, recognition, and connection—reminding us that even our most private feelings often resonate far beyond ourselves. Most of CHOU’s works delve into contemporary themes such as human-technology relationships, collective memories through personal stories, cross-cultural exchanges, and LGBTQ+ culture, usually conveyed through highly aesthetical and poetic visuals, personal yet universal stories, and unanswered social questions. His main focus is on reconciling new media, digital culture and theatre, with occasional involvement in video art, documentary, and music video. He focuses on envisioning new ways of experiencing narrative through the use of new media.

This talk and the presentations of Traversing the Mist by CHOU Tung-Yen are part of RADICAL TOGETHERNESS
