On Tuesday, June 9, director Anna-Louise Rolland will go in conversation with visiting curator Sasha Dees and the audience. Rolland will continue her conversation with the Netherlands/ Herrnhut/ and Surinam, started with Raoul de Joung in January, and his book the Jaguar Man, connecting Europe to slavery and the global political sphere in South and Middle America, and Europe is deeply embedded. Rolland will continue this conversation with Sasha Dees about the publication Entangled Species, Conversations on Contemporary Art in the Caribbean, the result of a fifteen-month research project Dees did in 16 countries in the Caribbean (including Surinam). We will talk and reflect together on past, present, and future entanglements with the Caribbean, Dutch colonialism, and what it might mean to present artworks made and the impact of the conversations in the Caribbean, here in Germany, or other contexts.
