Winternights is an initiative of SoAP (Space oriented Artistic Practice) Maastricht, VIA ZUID (Talent development performing arts Limburg) and C-TAKT (Platform Transdisciplinary Talent). With Winternights, they offer a stage to work-in-progress by exciting new voices in today’s performing arts.
Experiment and dialogue
Winternights is an adventure for both makers and visitors. The general public and professionals, such as programmers and dramaturges, can become acquainted with the new ideas and the creative process of the makers in an inspiring way. Makers are given the space to test and assess new work and to come into contact with the public, professionals, and each other.
Winternights is a festival where work-in-progress projects will be shown and not ‘finished’ work. This choice forces us to think differently about how to deal with the audience and the location. With Winternights, we make the research-oriented character of a project visible. The public gains insight into how the artistic practice of our artists is developing, and it is an excellent opportunity for the artist to test their latest work or ideas. Some want to share an initial idea and explore the reactions, while others opt for active audience participation and specifically ask for feedback. This can be in the form of an after-talk, a written contribution, or a personal chat in the bar. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and reactions with the makers. For them, the feedback from spectators is extremely valuable.
Winternights is an annual festival where performing artists and enthusiasts come together to share experiences. Artists from various backgrounds show their work in progress. The Winternights program consists of routes along performances and open studios, accompanied by a guide. You can also choose your own path and visit the program freely.
