This weekend was the NEXUS opening, first tours, and Island Forum. However the latter ended up as the European curator talk, no matter how hard the museum staff and director, the artists, and I tried to make it happen even till 3 days before the opening, non of the artists (4 out of 7) available to travel both funding and mobility in the Caribbean made it complicated to get them here.

This has been the first exhibition that I curated ever that no artists were present on the opening weekend and I was here just by myself in Taiwan. Visas needed to be able to transfer to connecting flights in the US and EU, connections anyway, travel time (minimum of 2 full days each way), and pricing to get artists from the Caribbean out here, just nothing worked out… all the more affirming how artists in the Caribbean face challenges, others don’t and the privilege I have as a European passport holder and living in The Netherlands with many daily direct flights internationally. The irony of me making an exhibition about the current influence of colonization…
