I AM is a youth documentary series (for 11+ audience) in which filmmaker Martijn Blekendaal tells the exciting story of the mysteries he had to unravel to become the adult man he is today. I AM is an adventurous and personal coming-of-age story around six mysteries in modern art. The series is a continuation of Martijn’s pilot “The man who looked beyond the horizon“, on artist Bas Jan Ader (released at IDFA), Banksy, Basquiat, Joseph Beuys, Marcel Duchamp, and Alice Neel.
“Which man – or woman – is hidden behind the mysterious street art artist Banksy? Was the death of the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, who died young, an accident? Why did Joseph Beuys lie about his war past? Who is R. Mutt? And why was the enigmatic portrait of the young African-American James Hunter never finished? In the youth documentary series Investigation Art Mysteries, I tell the exciting story of the mysteries I had to unravel to become the man I am. I AM is an adventurous and personal coming-of-age story about six mysteries in modern art. Six controversial artists, six enigmatic stories, six personal quests.”
